Rhinoceros Viper
The striking colour and pattern of the rhinoceros viper make it an attractive snake.  Their skin has a velvety appearance especially after shedding because they have keeled scales rather than smooth scales.  Smooth scales make snakes look shiny while keeled scales give a velvety appearance.  The name, keeled, is derived from the slight ridge that runs down the centre of each scale on the sides and back of the snake.
