Reptilia has a new, very special resident! Kiva the Congo African Grey Parrot.
At first, she may not seem to fit in with the rest of Reptilia’s residents, but don’t be fooled! Birds are actually reptiles! They are more closely related to our crocodilian residents than crocodilians are to lizards and snakes.
Kiva the Parrot fits our residents in another important way – she is also an animal that was stuck without a home, like most of our other reptiles! Although parrots can be one of the most rewarding relationships between human and animal, they are also very loud, destructive and demanding. Many families find they cannot take care of such a long-lived, high maintenance animal for long.
But Kiva has it good! A large, stimulating exhibit, attention from dedicated zookeepers and lots of visiting guests! Come and visit her yourself!
