Dinosaur Update

Whitby, ON — October 7, 2025 — After weeks of dedicated care following her remarkable rescue—a story defined by compassion, community, and hope—we are heartbroken to share that Dinosaur, the Fly River Turtle, has passed away due to complications from a generalized infection.

Despite encouraging signs of recovery, including healing wounds and improving energy levels, the infection ultimately proved too severe to overcome, even with antibiotic treatment and the tireless efforts of a devoted animal care team.

We take comfort in knowing that Dinosaur’s final days were spent in a warm, safe, and loving environment—one filled with kindness and familiarity, rather than the cold, uncertain waters where she struggled to survive alone for so long.

Dinosaur’s story underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and highlights the profound impact that community support and compassion can have on the lives of animals in need. While she should never have endured such hardship, her final chapter was defined by human kindness and collective care.

Although cases of neglected, abandoned, or escaped reptiles are unfortunately all too common, Dinosaur’s story has renewed our mission and strengthened our resolve to continue helping reptiles in need.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in Dinosaur’s rescue, capture, relocation, and transfer to Reptilia Zoo Whitby. We also thank the many individuals who followed her journey, reached out for updates, and cheered her on through social media and news coverage.

Finally, we are profoundly grateful to our dedicated staff, whose expert treatment, compassionate care, and unwavering commitment ensured that Dinosaur received every possible opportunity to recover and experience comfort in her final weeks.
