Young Spectacled Caiman Arrives at Reptilia London

LONDON, ON — August 5, 2026 — Reptilia London is welcoming a new resident! Carter, a young Spectacled Caiman, has officially moved from Reptilia Vaughan and is now on display at the London facility.

Carter is one of three Spectacled Caimans that arrived at Reptilia as tiny six-inch hatchlings following a wildlife confiscation in Ontario. Since their arrival, the trio has spent the past several years growing under the specialized care of Reptilia Vaughan’s experienced animal-care team.

Carter has now made the move to Reptilia London, while the other two caimans remain at Reptilia Vaughan. He is settling into his new exhibit and taking centre stage as one of London’s newest residents.

“Carter’s story is an important example of the role accredited zoological facilities can play in providing lifelong care for confiscated wildlife,” said Ryan Vince, General Manager of Reptilia. “He arrived as a tiny hatchling and has grown tremendously under the care of our team. We are excited to introduce him to our London guests and provide new opportunities for people to learn about this remarkable species.”

Spectacled Caimans get their name from the raised ridge between their eyes, which resembles the bridge of a pair of glasses. Native to Central and South America, they are found in rivers, lakes, wetlands and other freshwater habitats.

Although Carter is still young, he will continue to grow considerably over the coming years. Spectacled Caimans are opportunistic predators that typically feed on fish, crustaceans, amphibians, birds and other small animals. As predators, they play an important role in maintaining balanced aquatic ecosystems throughout their natural range.

Guests visiting Reptilia London can now see Carter in his new exhibit and follow his journey as he continues to grow.

Welcome to London, Carter!
