As the Lead Zookeeper at Reptilia Vaughan, you will play a crucial role in the daily care and management of our diverse reptile and amphibian collection. You will lead a team of animal care professionals, ensuring the health and well-being of our animals while maintaining the highest standards of husbandry, enrichment, and safety.

Role Objectives
- Supervise and help junior zookeepers and animal care staff.
- Ensuring that all animals maintained are fully cared for to REPTILIA standards or beyond
- The zoo’s appearance is always kept up to the highest standard
- All of our Visitors enjoy a personal, educational, safe, and unforgettable experience
- All zoo programs are promoted as part of the Visitor experience and Conservation promotion
- The facility, equipment, and stock of supplies are maintained to HT standards
- The facility changes regularly and on schedule creating a better guest experience and working environment.
- Monitor and maintain the health, nutrition, and habitat conditions of our reptile and amphibian collection.
- Assist in the development and implementation of enrichment programs to promote animal well-being and stimulate natural behaviors.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to provide medical care and treatment when necessary.
- Participate in the planning and execution of educational programs and events, engaging with the public and promoting conservation awareness.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, behavior, and breeding activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant animal welfare regulations and protocols.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff members.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience working with reptiles and amphibians in a professional setting, with a proven track record of animal care and husbandry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to animal welfare and conservation efforts.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding and sometimes outdoor environment.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays as needed.
